Introduction to Austrian Economics

This course will provide students with a basic grasp of fundamental economic principles as understood from the perspective of the Austrian school, the champions of liberty. It will include a consideration of how economic theory and principles are derived, what is money, the price system, inflation and deflation, the gold standard, the Federal Reserve, fractional reserve banking, theories of value, trade, specialization and the division of labor, competition, supply and demand, tariffs, the proper role of government in the economy, and MORE.

This class meets once per week for one hour at 8:00 AM on Thursdays. Students may attend the live session in Burley, or participate online via Zoom. All classes will be recorded for later viewing by students and parents. There will be short article reading assignments and weekly quizzes to review the content of each class and reemphasize the learning objectives. Parents are required to monitor the classes and conduct the family discussion questions each week.

Classes start on Thursday September 11 and continue each Thursday until December 18,  with a break for Thanksgiving, making for a 14 week semester.
